The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that moderate to heavy rains are expected to continue across several parts of the country until 25th February 2026, with the most intense rainfall likely between 22nd and 24th February. In an advisory issued on 20th February, the department said some areas could receive more than 30 millimetres of rain within 24 hours, increasing the risk of flooding and flash floods. Regions expected to be affected include the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, central highlands, southeastern lowlands and the coastal region, with counties such as Migori, Nyamira, Bungoma, Kakamega, Embu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Kisii, Narok, Kajiado, Makueni, Machakos, Nairobi, Kericho, Bomet, Taita Taveta, Kitui, Kwale, Mombasa and parts of Kilifi listed. Residents in these areas have been advised to remain on high alert, avoid walking or driving through flooded areas, and take precautionary measures to protect life and property.
