Residents of Mombasa County are set to benefit from improved safety and public health after the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), working with the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the National Police Service, conducted a major crackdown on illegal drugs and illicit alcohol. The operation led to the arrest of six suspects and the seizure of methamphetamine and counterfeit spirits valued at approximately KSh 4 million. Among the confiscated items were traditional brews suspected to be laced with harmful chemicals, which posed serious health risks to the community.By removing these dangerous substances and arresting those behind their production, NACADA aims to reduce the risk of drug abuse, alcohol related accidents, and poisoning deaths in the county. Authorities say the operation is part of a nationwide strategy to combine strict law enforcement with public health interventions, ensuring safer neighborhoods and healthier residents. Investigations into the broader network behind the trade are ongoing, with the suspects expected to be arraigned in court.
