A Journey of Faith Along the Highway
The afternoon sun hung gently over Voi as believers gathered for one of the most anticipated spiritual moments of the year — the arrival of the Sacred Heart statue in Voi Parish. The day marked another chapter in the ongoing Sacred Heart Voi pilgrimage, a movement that has been weaving Christians together across the deanery with song, devotion, and unity.
From the moment the statue left Mwakiki Parish, excitement was already building. It travelled atop a pickup truck, raised high so everyone walking behind could see it — a symbol of hope in motion. Along the busy Mombasa–Nairobi highway, Christians walked slowly and reverently, singing hymns that blended beautifully with the sound of passing vehicles.
It was more than a procession; it was a statement of faith, humility, and togetherness.
The Handover at Caltex Voi
The official handover of the Sacred Heart statue took place at Caltex Voi, a familiar landmark along the highway. Here, the moment was charged with song, prayer, and emotion as Christians from every corner of the Voi Deanery converged.
The deanery’s supervising priest, Fr. Babanya, formally handed over the statue to Fr. Marcus Were of Voi Parish. For many, this was the highlight — a sacred exchange that connected two communities through tradition and devotion.
Security was well-coordinated. Members of CMA Kenya worked alongside police to ensure that every pilgrim walked safely during the sacred heart voi procession. Their presence added calm and order, allowing Christians to focus fully on the spiritual significance of the moment.
The Procession Entering Voi Parish
As the statue continued its journey toward the parish, the sound of combined choirs filled the air. Voi Parish choir joined forces with other groups from across the deanery, creating an atmosphere of joyful worship. The religious societies, all dressed in their official uniforms, added color and dignity to the moment.

By the time the procession reached the church compound, the excitement had transformed into deep reverence — a quiet, collective breath as the Sacred Heart was placed inside the church.
Teachings, Adoration, and Mass
Before proceeding to Mass, Christians were taken through short teachings focusing on the meaning and history of the devotion to the Sacred Heart. These teachings served to remind the faithful of God’s love and the call to mercy, compassion, and service.
Afterwards, the faithful entered into a time of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The church was silent, save for soft prayers whispered from different corners. For many, this was the most personal moment — a time to reflect, to give thanks, and to seek renewal.
The day ended with a beautiful Mass, bringing together priests, religious leaders, and hundreds of believers who had walked the long road from the highway to the church. Testimonies shared afterwards revealed how deeply the experience had touched many hearts.
The Sacred Heart Voi Pilgrimage Continues
The statue will remain at Voi Parish for about a week before it is handed over to another parish within the deanery. The movement will continue until every community has had its moment of blessing, reflection, and unity.
For the people of Voi, this pilgrimage is more than tradition. It is a reminder that even in busy towns and challenging times, faith has the power to bring people together — to pause, to walk side by side, and to celebrate something greater than themselves. As one pilgrim softly expressed, “When we walk together like this, you can feel God among us.”

Reflection
The Sacred Heart Voi procession stands as a testament to the power of unity. It is a gentle reminder that communities flourish when hearts beat together. And like an old Swahili proverb says:
“Umoja ni nguvu; utengano ni udhaifu.”
Unity is strength; division is weakness.
