LENACAPAVIR INJECTION ARRIVES IN KENYA TO BOOST HIV PREVENTION

Kenyans are expected to benefit from the new HIV prevention injection Lenacapavir, which is given twice a year and provides protection for up to six months, making it easier for people to stay safe without taking daily pills. The Ministry of Health says the drug will be rolled out in phases starting in March 2026 in counties including Mombasa, Nairobi, Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Kilifi. Health experts believe Lenacapavir will help reduce new HIV infections, especially among young people, couples where one partner has HIV, and other high risk groups. With more than one million people currently living with HIV in Kenya, officials say the injection will strengthen prevention efforts and support the country’s goal of ending HIV as a public health threat, while still working alongside existing methods such as testing, treatment, and condom use.
