Residents of Kilifi County are set to benefit from the Kenya Marine Fisheries and Socio-Economic Development (KEMFSED) Project, implemented by the Government of Kenya through the State Department for Blue Economy and Fisheries. The project aims to boost food security, increase incomes, create jobs, and improve livelihoods through sustainable fish and crab farming. The Dabaso Creek Conservation Group has expanded its crab farming from 300 cages to 1,225 cages, while the Ihaleni Kakuluni Conservation Group has constructed two modern fishponds and adopted improved practices to increase milkfish production. By supporting these community groups, the project helps residents earn more, protect the environment, and unlock the full potential of Kenya’s blue economy.
