Efforts to boost clean energy production in the country continue to gain momentum as private investors partner with local communities to support the government’s renewable energy agenda.
A new solar power project launched in Taita Taveta County is expected to increase electricity access, create employment opportunities for youths, and promote industrial growth in the region.

The government’s target of attaining 1,000 megawatts of solar energy by the year 2027 is steadily receiving support from private investors and energy companies across the country.
This follows the signing of a commitment agreement between Izera Habitat Power Plant, Cape of Eagles, and Reverie Consortium — a Bangladesh-based company with operations in various parts of the world, including Singapore, Australia, West Africa, and the UAE — as the EPC contractors. The agreement was signed in the presence of members of the Taita Taveta community and aims to expand access to clean energy in the county.
Speaking during the event, Chairman of Izera Habitat Power Plant and Cape of Eagles, the project promoters and developers, Hon. Emmanuel Osore said the project has already commenced with 10 megawatts in the first phase, while an additional 40 megawatts will be rolled out in the second phase later this year to serve more residents across different parts of Taita Taveta County and the country.
Osore said the project will continue expanding so that more homes and businesses can benefit from affordable and reliable solar energy. He added that the initiative is also expected to create employment opportunities for many young people in the county.
According to Osore, the solar power initiative is expected to address unemployment among youths living in the targeted areas while at the same time promoting environmentally friendly energy solutions.
Chairman of Reverie Consortium, representing Bangladesh, Singapore, and Austria, Md Ariful Shuhan affirmed the consortium’s commitment to ensuring residents access sufficient solar energy for both domestic and commercial use.

Residents who attended the event welcomed the initiative, saying the project will help improve access to clean and reliable energy in their homes and businesses.
The project is also expected to open up investment opportunities and accelerate development in the region as Kenya continues to embrace renewable energy solutions.
